Daniel had
an amazing morning, more laughing and we could communicate because he simply
won’t shut up! Love it! His patience
prevails while I will get part of a word, like “key”, he will shake his head
yes, and continue to “say the word”, I finally guess Reiki, and he smiles
widely shaking his head yes!
I really
should have written this last night because so many good things occurred but I
woke up this morning feeling like a Mac truck had run me over! The weight of the past week seem to be
landing on me all at once.
The air
leak in his lungs seems to have stopped or at least slowed down; the lung seems
to have inflated some. His breathing was
very good, they could lower the pressure on the vent and allow him to take some
breaths on his own (meaning the machine didn’t do all of the work). His stomach appears to be waking up a bit
too.
He was exhausted
by all of our activity in the morning, but as he tried to sleep he was interrupted
a thousand times by one doctor or another.
Frustrating, I had the harpist come to play so people would stay out but
it didn’t really work, I almost feel asleep!
The respiratory
therapist allowed Daniel to say “Hi, Mom” through his trach. It sounds so weird because he has to speak on
the exhale, but it is the most beautiful words I have heard in the past
week. I’ll take every single word that
he can emit.
Daniel is
so positive through all of this. He doesn’t
seem to mind being trached; I guess if you can’t breathe you’ll do anything. He’s
fully aware of everything he has had done to him and nothing seems to be
bothering him emotionally. Such a source
of strength!
Inch by
inch, day by day, we will conquer all of these obstacles.
Love, Carol
